Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate simple, decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold with no profit made and with no interest charged on the low cost mortgages. As it holds a mission to seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
Habitat for Humanity Allegheny Valley (HFHAV) is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, Faith-Based ministry. With the support of passionate volunteers from our local communities, HFHAV is able to provide support to underserved residents of the community by providing labor and building equipment that coincides with generous contributions from individuals, corporate donors, and foundations that provide the resources necessary to complete a home build. Additionally, our selected homeowner families are required to invest 350 hours of labor – “sweat equity” – into building their homes and the homes of others. In part, the mortgage payments received by our homeowners are placed in escrow fund to pay for taxes and insurance, and utilize the remaining balance to create the perpetual “Fund for Humanity” that is used to build more houses.
